Following the thrilling face-off between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone, the Dutch national team is gearing up for a battle against the English squad. The semi-finals of the European Football Championship promise to be an electrifying match between the two nations. British racer Hamilton, however, is keeping his excitement in check.

In an interview with CNN, Lewis Hamilton admitted that he has been following the national team a bit during the European Championship in Germany. The seven-time world champion finds much in common when he looks at the youngest players of the English team. “I remember well when I myself came into the spotlight at a young age,” he shared. “Can you imagine what it must be like for those guys on the field? The whole country is counting on you – that must be incredibly tough.”

“I am very proud of our team and all the hurdles it has had to overcome,” continued the 39-year-old driver. “They kept climbing back up every time. It’s very impressive to see.”

‘Don’t Put Too Much Pressure’

On Wednesday, the English will battle against the Dutch for a spot in the finals. Lewis Hamilton will naturally be cheering for Gareth Southgate’s men, although he doesn’t dare to say with certainty that they will make it to the finals. “I try not to get too excited,” he laughed. “England has quite a reputation when it comes to these kinds of titles. Besides, I don’t want to put too much pressure on it. We have a lot of talented players, but they need to work well together.”
