Max Verstappen qualified fourth for the sprint race in Miami, but may face a penalty: the Red Bull driver has been summoned by the stewards due to an incident in SQ2.
Max Verstappen is due to report to the stewards at 17:50 local time in Miami. The 27-year-old world champion is alleged to have not followed the maximum delta time in SQ2, thereby ignoring the race director’s instructions. The same applies to Carlos Sainz, George Russell, Alex Albon, Liam Lawson, and Gabriel Bortoleto.
Outpaced by McLaren Duo
In the sprint qualifying, the Dutchman could not repeat his feat from Jeddah. While all drivers opted for one fast lap, Max Verstappen did two. On his first attempt, he clocked a 1:27.070, which he improved to 1:26.737 on his second run, overtaking George Russel. However, the Red Bull driver had to concede to the just 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who made history: the Italian is the youngest driver ever to start a sprint race from pole position. McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris did not match the teenager’s time, but they did finish above their main title rival.
