Oscar Piastri is content with securing the third starting position for the Monaco Grand Prix. After an ‘intense’ qualifying battle with local hero Charles Leclerc and teammate Lando Norris, he is delighted to be among the top three. Piastri, who is typically praised for his clinical driving style, hit the wall several times in Monaco, making the third time more than welcome.
How would Oscar Piastri describe his qualification for the Monaco Grand Prix? “Intense, as it always is here,” he responded after the session. “It was a bit like where it went wrong last year. My first lap was good, but in the second lap, I lost time mainly in the chicane.” Piastri congratulated his teammate, Lando Norris, who set a record in Monaco with a super-fast pole lap. “A great result for Norris,” grinned the Australian.
“I’m still happy. It was a messy weekend, so a third place is okay,” he continued. “I’ve hit more walls this weekend than I have in my entire career. As a result, I went into the qualification with little confidence, so this is a good result.” Regarding the lead over Ferrari (P2 and P4), he predicts an interesting race. “We have a good starting position, but with the mandatory double pit stop, it will definitely be an interesting race tomorrow.”
