Lando Norris, the 25-year-old British racing driver, has confirmed that he will not be travelling to the Netherlands this year to celebrate King’s Day. This comes after his participation in the festivities in 2024, where he notably navigated the canals of Amsterdam, resulting in a nose injury amidst the revelry. This year, Norris intends to stay sober for as long as possible and focus entirely on his pursuit of his first world championship title.

Last year, infamous images of Lando Norris celebrating King’s Day in the heart of Amsterdam with DJ and close friend Martin Garrix circulated the internet. The party took a slight turn when Norris cut his nose on a broken glass, leaving him with a small scar. However, during the subsequent race weekend in Miami, Norris, sporting a plaster on his nose, won his very first Grand Prix. As the saying goes, “break a glass, bring good luck.”

‘I haven’t had a drink this year’

This year, Norris will not be heading to the Dutch capital to celebrate King’s Day, as he confirmed to Viaplay. The McLaren driver, who lost the championship lead to teammate Oscar Piastri in Jeddah, wants to focus on the world title. “No, unfortunately, I won’t be there,” Norris said about King’s Day. “I wish I could go because it was one of the best days of my life. Not long after, of course, I won in Miami.”

“But no, I won’t be there,” he assured. “Last year, I had an amazing week in Amsterdam with Martin (Garrix) and a whole group of friends, but I’m now fighting for the championship. I can’t afford these kinds of distractions. I’ll be at home training in the coming days. The Saudi Arabian GP was again very tough and physically demanding. Besides, there’s more to life than partying and drinking,” he concluded. “I haven’t had a drink all year, and I’m proud of that. I have to work hard, so for now, I can’t afford to let loose.”
