The deal is sealed. Viaplay retains the broadcasting rights for Formula 1 until 2029. Multiple sources confirm that the streaming service remains the primary provider for the premier class in the Netherlands. After a heated battle with competitors like Ziggo Sport, the Swedish platform will continue to offer Formula 1 to Dutch fans for at least another five years.

Reportedly, Viaplay has laid down at least 45 million euros per year for the exclusive broadcasting rights of the Dutch Formula 1. In the previous deal, from 2022 to 2024, it was about thirty million per season. Rumors have long suggested that Viaplay was the favorite for a new agreement, despite stiff competition from Ziggo Sport. The latter party held the rights until 2022.

Insiders suggest that Viaplay TV – the so-called collaboration with Talpa’s SBS9 – persuaded the FOM to extend the agreement with Viaplay. This means that a portion of the sport is broadcast on the ‘open’ network, which carries significant weight for the big bosses of Formula 1. As a result, F1 content becomes freely available to the general public, potentially attracting new fans to the sport.
