According to sources, Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson are set to compete against each other at Imola. Both drivers are reportedly being considered for Sergio Pérez’s Red Bull seat. Pérez’s future at Red Bull remains uncertain following a series of disappointing races.
Ricciardo currently drives for Red Bull’s sister team, Visa RB, while Lawson serves as the reserve driver. The New Zealander made a significant impression last year, stepping in for the injured Ricciardo with his impressive driving skills. Therefore, the two drivers are set to compete against each other at Imola during a test session on Red Bull’s final filming day. Both Ricciardo and Lawson will conduct the test in the 2022 AlphaTauri AT03 car.
Pérez’s Future at Risk
The session involving Ricciardo and Lawson is reportedly scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, two days after Red Bull’s meeting about the future of Sergio Pérez. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko previously confirmed that the team would discuss the Mexican’s future on the Monday following the Belgian GP.
“Sergio knows that for the constructors’ championship, we need to have both cars ahead of McLaren if possible, and that hasn’t been the case in the last few races,” Marko told ServusTV. “The goal is to win both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, and we will discuss on Monday the best way to achieve that.”
