Lewis Hamilton secured a podium finish for the 198th time during the Spanish Grand Prix, landing in third place behind rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. This marked his first podium finish of 2024, ending a long streak of finishes outside the top three. In doing so, Hamilton has once again broken an impressive record.
With his third-place finish in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton has stood on the podium in 18 consecutive seasons, and in every season he has participated. This achievement surpasses his own record. His first top-three finish dates back to his debut race, the 2007 Australian Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher, who recorded a podium finish for 15 consecutive years, holds the second place. Max Verstappen has finished on the podium for 9 consecutive seasons.
Hamilton had to wait a while before he could break his record again. His last podium finish was during the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix. Since then, he had to wait for eleven races to secure a spot among the fastest three, another personal record for the Mercedes veteran.
The 39-year-old driver has previously finished in third place 39 times. The record holder in this statistic is Kimi Räikkönen, who clinched bronze 45 times. However, Hamilton holds the record for the most finishes in second place (56 times) and the most victories (103). The next time he finishes in the top three will be his 150th podium with Mercedes.
