Zak Brown denies allegations that he did not want to sign Oscar Piastri for McLaren. IndyCar champion Alex Palou, who was sued by the team for breach of contract, claimed during a hearing that the American was not in favor of the Australian’s arrival. The decision was reportedly made by team boss Andreas Seidl. Brown himself says he is amused by these ‘ridiculous’ accusations.
Earlier this month, the lawsuit between McLaren and Alex Palou began in a London court. The team is reportedly demanding over twenty million dollars from the Spaniard because he tore up his IndyCar contract with McLaren following the arrival of Oscar Piastri. Palou defended himself by stating that he was promised the seat next to Lando Norris. He revealed that Andreas Seidl was responsible for bringing in the Australian talent, while Zak Brown would have preferred to let Piastri go.
‘Of course I wanted Piastri’
In response to the allegations, the American spoke to Reuters news agency. “I don’t know which accusation amused me more; the idea that I wouldn’t be the one making a major decision about our driver lineup, or the suggestion that I disagreed with the recruitment of the enormously talented Oscar Piastri,” said Zak Brown.
“Both accusations are downright ridiculous, and anyone who follows our sport can see right through them,” he added. “With Piastri and Norris, we absolutely have the best duo on the Formula 1 grid. I am extremely pleased with their performances and their sportsmanship. I look forward to the fantastic races we will see for the rest of the season.”
