Yuki Tsunoda will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from the pit lane. The Red Bull driver has had several new engine components installed that exceed the allowed seasonal quota. As a result, he is required to give up his sixteenth starting position. Red Bull replaced, among other things, the engine block, the turbos, the MGU-H, and the MGU-K. In addition, Tsunoda is using a new exhaust system in Budapest.
Although Yuki Tsunoda qualified sixteenth for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday, he is not allowed to keep that position. After a complete engine swap, the 25-year-old driver is required to start from the pit lane. This is in accordance with the rules for replacing multiple engine parts, combined with adjustments to the power unit under parc fermé rules. The Formula 1 regulations stipulate that drivers may only use four examples of certain engine components per season, but Tsunoda is driving with his fifth powertrain this weekend. Exceeding this limit automatically results in a grid penalty.
In addition to the new power unit, Tsunoda also had a new exhaust system installed. This is the first of a maximum of eight exhaust systems that can be used throughout the season without penalty. The additional parts should help the Japanese driver remain competitive, although starting from the pit lane means he will have to make a significant comeback to finish in the points. Overtaking on the narrow and twisty Hungaroring is also no easy task.
