Former world champion speed skater Erben Wennemars made his mark this week at the Formula 1 circuit of Silverstone. Not in a car, but in a variety of other strenuous ways. Wennemars was one of the participants in the international HYROX Coaches Camp.

HYROX is a global fitness race that combines running with eight standardized functional exercises. The format consists of running a kilometer eight times, interspersed with eight recurring workout stations, such as a Sled Push, Burpee Broad Jumps, and Wall Balls.

“For three days, we fully immersed ourselves in the latest developments of HYROX. Together with the best coaches from around the world, we worked on setting a new standard for this young, rapidly growing sport,” writes the Dalfsen native on his LinkedIn account, accompanied by photos.

Red Bull Pitrace as the Perfect Example

“What’s special about HYROX? We’re making history as we experience it. No inhibiting history, no set boundaries – just the energy and conviction that this is not a hype, but a lasting movement. In an inspiring environment – from the Formula 1 Red Bull factory to the training sessions at Silverstone itself – we shared knowledge, learned from each other, and most importantly: we participated. Because a HYROX coach doesn’t stand on the sidelines. We participate ourselves, feel what it is and live it. The Red Bull Pitrace was the perfect example of this: pushing boundaries, sharing energy and experiencing what it means to truly be part of this community,” says Wennemars.

According to him, HYROX is far from a temporary hype. “It’s not a hype, but a global movement that we can shape together. With passion, with strength, and with an incredible amount of energy. HYROX is here to stay!”
