Visa Cash App RB, the sister team of Red Bull, is set to experiment with recycled carbon. With Formula 1 cars largely made of carbon fiber, the team sees potential in reusing old parts of the car. At Imola, the VCARB 01 will already be equipped with recycled components on the front wing.

The team of drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda announced in a press release that they have teamed up with the Italian company Herambiente. The company, coincidentally based in Imola, will recycle carbon for the Formula 1 team. With the reused material, Visa RB can reattach old parts, for example after a crash, back onto the car.

The old carbon is pressed into a new shape in a mold, allowing Visa RB to create new parts. In the future, the entire car should be made of reused carbon fiber. The goal is to make racing with Formula 1 cars – a fairly expensive sport – more sustainable. At the upcoming GP of Emilia-Romagna, recycled parts will already be used on the front wing.

Environmental Awareness

“Treating the environment with respect fits with Visa Cash App RB’s approach to reducing the impact on climate change,” says Enrico Fastelli, the team’s facility manager. Within Formula 1, sustainability is becoming an increasingly larger theme. In 2026, the regulations for the championship will be overhauled again; one of the biggest changes is the use of sustainable fuels that should reduce emissions during a Grand Prix.
