Racing talent Victor Martins is set to get his first taste of Formula 1 during the upcoming race weekend in Spain, as announced by Williams on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Frenchman is part of the British racing team’s training school and represents ART Grand Prix in Formula 2. He has previously won titles in the Formula Renault Eurocup and Formula 3.
Victor Martins will take the wheel of Alex Albon‘s FW47 during the first free practice in Barcelona. He was previously associated with Alpine’s junior program, but switched to the French team for Williams in March of this year. In April, he already drove a private test on the Monza circuit. He is the second Williams talent to get a test session this year – in Bahrain, Luke Browning took over Carlos Sainz‘s car. All Formula 1 teams are required this year to deploy an inexperienced driver four times during training sessions.
“I am super excited to be able to sit in the FW47 for the first time in Spain,” he said. “It will be an incredible experience to drive for the team. I am working hard to prepare as well as possible. Of course, I want to maximize my time in the car and make it a valuable session, for myself and for the team. I am extremely grateful to everyone at Williams for this opportunity and I look forward to enjoying every second.”
