Former Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel commends the vulnerability of Lando Norris. The Brit is known for his self-criticism after a poor race weekend, as was the case after the recent GP Bahrain. Vettel does not see the vulnerability of the McLaren driver as a ‘weak point’, but rather as ‘heroic’ and a positive development among the current generation of drivers.
“After every good thing I did, I made two mistakes,” was Lando Norris’s assessment after the GP Bahrain. It’s not the first time the British driver has blamed himself for a disappointing race weekend. Norris is known for being very hard on himself after disappointing results.
Sebastian Vettel finds Norris’s vulnerability inspiring. According to the four-time world champion, the Brit shows that Formula 1 drivers are also just human. “Heroism is fine, but it’s also heroic to talk about your problems and weaknesses,” the German explains during a karting event in Saudi Arabia. “I think it’s a very good development that there are now such good role models in Formula 1.”Martin Brundle Compares Piastri to Prost: ‘Calm and Confident’
According to the four-time world champion, not only has significant progress been made in the area of vulnerability within motorsport, but also in the realm of rivalry between teammates. Vettel believes a step forward has definitely been made. “We used to have respect, just like this generation of drivers. But I think they can make a better distinction than we could between what happens on the track and what happens off it.”
No Battle Between Norris and Oscar Piastri?
Therefore, Vettel does not anticipate an intense battle between McLaren teammates Norris and Oscar Piastri. The Australian reduced the gap between the two in the drivers’ championship to three points with his victory in Bahrain. “Of course, people are always looking for entertainment, which is fine and part of the sport, but I don’t really see these two having a very difficult collaboration,” says Vettel. “I think they get along well and that Andrea (Stella) is also capable of managing them well.”
