An initially rather stale year is given an unexpected twist by Max Verstappen. Five editors and three columnists share their personal memories of Verstappen in 2025 in a short contribution. Part 2: columnist Noël Ummels, on the Nürburgring and more.
I’m certainly not the only one who finds it beautiful. But then again, I’m definitely not the only one who enjoys such an overtaking race in Brazil. Hence, I opt for the first choice: the excursion to the Nürburgring. I believe it was Alexander Albon who said how much it shows what kind of enthusiast Max is above all. He hit the nail on the head. All those millions are fun, but only if you’re also having fun.
It’s no coincidence that Max also immerses himself in virtual motorsport in his spare time. And so, he passed the entrance exam for the green hell without even a peep that he felt too good for it, raced with the handbrake on, and won when the brakes were released. This is not a given, but in his case, it’s completely logical.
It’s a shame that the current Formula 1 calendar hardly leaves any room for additional races. One might almost hope that next year won’t work out with Red Bull and that he’ll skip a weekend for Le Mans.
Again, winning is not a given, but in his case, it’s completely logical.
