Verstappen's Future: Mercedes Talks Stir F1 Speculation

The future of Max Verstappen in Formula 1 continues to be a hot topic of discussion. Ever since George Russell revealed that Mercedes is in talks with the four-time world champion, the rumor mill has been working overtime. Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has also been advising the Dutchman on his future, although he would prefer Verstappen to stay with Red Bull.

Max Verstappen has enjoyed many successes during his time at Red Bull, including his four world titles. However, the current season is proving less successful for the Austrian team, and Verstappen, due to ongoing struggles with the RB21, must for now settle for third place in the drivers’ championship, behind the two McLaren drivers. This has fueled the rumor mill, linking the Dutchman with a potential move to Mercedes.

Ecclestone Prefers Verstappen to Stay at Red Bull

According to F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone, Verstappen could fit into any team due to his immense talent, but he advises the 27-year-old to choose a team ‘where he is happiest’. “As long as he is happy, he will still be able to perform as he does now, because he is not someone who just muddles through, right?” Ecclestone told Sky F1. “I mean, he is very clear in what he says and what he does.” However, the Brit would prefer Verstappen to stay at Red Bull. “I would like to see him stay where he is,” Ecclestone confirms.

The Dutch world champion has a contract with his current employer until 2028. According to Gerhard Berger, former shareholder in Red Bull’s junior team Toro Rosso, Red Bull is trying to keep Verstappen on the team by firing Christian Horner. “At the moment, it’s much more about stabilizing the whole team and really getting Max Verstappen back on board,” he explained to Krone Zeitung. “Red Bull Racing is currently in a downward spiral. The goal now must be to rebuild the team properly.”
