Former Haas team boss Günther Steiner has some advice for Max Verstappen on how to celebrate his potential fifth world championship, should he secure the title in Abu Dhabi. The Dutch driver previously stated that he is only still in the title race due to McLaren’s mistakes. According to Steiner, Verstappen should therefore best celebrate his victory by visiting the British team’s garage: ‘He should give everyone a hug to thank them.’

The climax of the title race is approaching, and Max Verstappen still has a chance to take his fifth consecutive world title home from Abu Dhabi. Although Lando Norris holds the best cards – the championship leader is still 12 World Championship points ahead of the Dutchman – Verstappen could make history with another championship victory. Former team boss Günther Steiner has some ideas on how the four-time world champion should celebrate his potential next title.”In the Red Flags podcast, the Italian is asked what securing a fifth title for Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi would do for the Dutchman’s legacy. “First of all, he really just needs to party for a week,” Steiner begins. “Without interruption, and without any sleep.” The former team boss then continues in a more serious tone: “But what does it really mean for his legacy? He will truly become the greatest driver of all time. To win the championship in such a car and against a team like McLaren.”

Thanking McLaren

In Qatar, Verstappen himself already said that he is only still in the title fight because of McLaren’s mistakes. Steiner shares this opinion with the four-time world champion, and would therefore love it if Verstappen would visit his British rival after a possible title win. “He should definitely go to McLaren’s garage and give everyone a hug to thank them,” Steiner jokes. “To say: ‘I couldn’t have done it without your help’.” The Italian even goes one step further: “If Max wins the race in Abu Dhabi, then Zak (Brown, editor’s note) should actually accept the constructors’ trophy.”
