Max Verstappen’s third victory of the season marked Laurent Mekies’ first as team boss of Red Bull Racing on Sunday. “This is pure perfection for the entire team,” the Frenchman enthusiastically responded after the Italian GP.
The upgrades to the floor and the car’s setup paid off in Monza. From pole position, the four-time world champion convincingly drove to victory.
Mekies: “Monza is, of course, a very specific circuit in terms of layout, but the team did a fantastic job by sending the fastest car onto the track. Combine that with the magic of Max. You saw the first round: he kept his cool and was able to attack Lando Norris again with a neat overtaking maneuver. This weekend was pure perfection. This is fantastic for the team. It’s an incredibly tough season for us, but this is truly amazing.”
Mekies also thanked the factory staff in Milton Keynes. “We really owe this to the hard work of the people in the factory. They enable us to have a fast car and the guys then deliver on the track.”
