Double celebration for Max Verstappen! While the Dutchman claimed victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday, Thierry Vermeulen and Chris Lulham, representing Verstappen.com Racing, won the Gold Cup in the GT World Challenge Europe sprint championship. The British-Dutch duo secured the title after the two-day final in Valencia. Verstappen.com Racing competes with a Ferrari 296 GT3, run by Emil Frey.

“Our only goal when we entered the circuit this morning,” Vermeulen responded to Verstappen.com, “was to win. We managed to do that all day. We had a trouble-free, albeit slightly boring, race. Chris had a flawless start, which helped enormously, and we secured the victory in the Gold class and the championship. It was a challenging year with certainly a number of beautiful highlights. Many thanks to the entire team of Emil Frey and Verstappen.com Racing for their support.”

Challenging Weekend

During the first race on Saturday, the Verstappen.com Racing team crossed the finish line first. The Dutch Formula 1 driver, to his great regret, could not watch this victory live. The qualifying in Baku was significantly delayed due to a record number of red flags. In retrospect, Verstappen missed little; the victory of Vermeulen and Lulham was later nullified by a time penalty. However, in the second race on Sunday, the duo managed to redeem themselves; they secured the victory and the title in the Gold Cup.

“I couldn’t have predicted at the beginning of the year that we would win the championship,” said Chris Lulham. “I’m over the moon. We came here today with one goal and we achieved it.” For clarity, Verstappen.com Racing competes in the GT World Challenge Europe, a GT championship divided into two categories: the Endurance Cup and the Sprint Cup. Vermeulen and Lulham compete in the latter class, in the Gold category.
