While neither the Max Verstappen camp nor Mercedes have confirmed any potential move of the four-time world champion to the Silver Arrows, the potential transition has been a topic of discussion for days. Previously, team bosses Christian Horner and Toto Wolff were asked about the rumors, and now it’s McLaren CEO Zak Brown’s turn to weigh in. What does the American think of the possible move? ‘A bit scary,’ Brown admits honestly.

Ever since George Russell announced that Max Verstappen and Mercedes are indeed in talks, rumors about a potential move of the Dutchman to the Silver Arrows have resurfaced. Although Verstappen himself has not made any statements about the talks, the question of whether a potential move of the four-time world champion to the German racing team is a good idea has already been put to several Formula 1 notables, including McLaren CEO Zak Brown.

The American admits he’s not a fan of the idea. “It would be a bit scary,” Brown honestly tells ESPN. “Mercedes is clearly on the rise and Red Bull is certainly not at the moment. Max is an incredible talent. Him in a Mercedes means pretty serious competition.”

‘Don’t want to write off Max yet’

Even without a Mercedes, Verstappen is still seen as serious competition for McLaren. For instance, Oscar Piastri, despite having a 61-point World Championship lead over the Dutchman, does not want to rule out Verstappen for the title this season. “I certainly don’t want to write off Max yet,” the Australian tells ESPN. “The gap is of course large, and our car is very competitive. In Austria, how strong the car was even surprised us. If we can continue like this, then things look good for us. But the championship is still long, so I certainly don’t write off Max yet.”
