Max Verstappen does not have a Grand Prix scheduled this weekend; the next race weekend in Baku is still a week away. This provides a golden opportunity for the four-time world champion to make his debut at the legendary Nürburgring. Verstappen has previously tested on the Nordschleife, but now stands on the eve of his first race. After all, racing remains a hobby for the Dutchman, who hopes to obtain his GT3 license this weekend.
“Racing is not only my profession, it remains my hobby,” Verstappen responded. “This weekend I am at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the aim of obtaining the racing license needed to race here in a GT3 car. I would really love that.” The 27-year-old driver is participating in an endurance race of the German Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS). “The Nordschleife tops my list of circuits where I want to race, because it is extremely challenging and demanding, with its enormous length and tight, historic layout,” he concluded. “I can’t wait!”
According to the press release, the Limburger will only be in action on Saturday. He will be driving a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, which was already spotted in the pit lane on Friday. Naturally, it is decked out in the familiar Verstappen.com Racing colors. As Verstappen must adhere to the same rules as other novice drivers at the Nürburgring, his car has slightly less power. He shares the cockpit with Chris Lulham, the 22-year-old Brit who also competes in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance and Sprint Cup with Verstappen.com Racing.
