In June, the long-awaited Formula 1 movie F1 will finally premiere. The project aims to provide as accurate a portrayal of the sport as possible, through the fictional APX GP racing team. The current grid was invited to an exclusive preview ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen, who has previously expressed his disinterest in a Formula 1 movie, passed up this opportunity. Instead, ‘Franz Hermann’ chose to spend the evening sim racing.
The entire Formula 1 grid was given the opportunity to see a preview of F1 ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. During the past season, and also in 2023, they were regularly joined in the paddock and on the track by actors Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. To make the movie as realistic as possible, both actors filmed scenes during race weekends. On Wednesday, the real drivers had their first chance to see the outcome of the project – including Lewis Hamilton, who worked on the film as an executive producer.
However, Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll were notably absent. Verstappen, who has repeatedly stated that he is not interested in a Formula 1 movie, skipped a night at the cinema. Instead, he debuted a new username on the streaming platform Twitch. As FranzHermann69, he streamed a session with his friends from Team Redline. Franz Hermann was the alias he used during a recent test at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
