Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies reflected on his team’s impressive comeback this season after the race. The Frenchman spoke proudly of his team’s work, particularly the performances of Max Verstappen. The team boss also had words of praise for the fierce battle with Lando Norris for the world championship.

Mekies began his season review with a tribute to his team’s hard work. “I am extremely proud of the team. It’s a fantastic comeback, a fantastic victory. A dominant win today, on a circuit where we didn’t expect to dominate. But that’s exactly what the guys, along with Max, achieved with a super-fast car. I am immensely proud of the great work everyone in Milton Keynes has done, not only to deliver us this race but also to make a sensational comeback in the second half of the season.”

Mekies also had high praise for the resilience of Lando Norris, who ultimately won the world championship: “Lando did a great job, it was a tough but fantastic fight. I hope it was just as exciting for the fans, to keep the championship exciting until the last lap of the last race. And that’s not all, we’re going to fight even harder next year.”

The Frenchman was also clear about the race itself, in which Max Verstappen drove from pole position to victory. Despite the pressure, he felt that the team and Verstappen had managed the race perfectly. “This was the perfect race. The team and Max did an excellent job from the start, right from the pole yesterday. Led from start to finish with superior tyre management. I don’t think we could have done anything better.”

Exceptional Turnaround

Finally, Mekies spoke about the emotions he felt after the season. “I am overwhelmed with emotions. The dominant feeling is that we have undergone a sensational turnaround. This is something you don’t experience every year, probably not even every decade. And that’s exactly what the boys and girls have achieved. That’s the feeling: very proud and impressed by this team that never gave up this season. It was pure racing until the last lap. We’re missing two points, but that doesn’t change how extraordinary this turnaround has been.”
