Max Verstappen caused a sensation on Saturday evening by securing pole position in the qualifying round for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The four-time world champion outperformed Oscar Piastri and George Russell on the fastest circuit of the F1 calendar. “The car really came to life in the evening,” Verstappen commented.
With his fastest time of 1:12.794, Verstappen beat the overwhelming favourite Piastri by 0.010 seconds. “Oh my God, guys. Simply lovely,” he exclaimed over the radio.
Later on the grid, Max Verstappen said, “I really didn’t expect this pole. We made some good adjustments to the car in the run-up to the qualifying. Qualifying here is very difficult, the walls are close. This is obviously the best position for tomorrow’s race. It will be hard to keep the others behind me, but we will do our best.”
