On Monday, Max Verstappen once again responded to the incident with George Russell during the recent Spanish Grand Prix. The Dutchman had been in sight of a podium finish for a long time, but after the restart, he had to tolerate Leclerc and Russell ahead of him. A collision with the Brit ultimately resulted in a costly time penalty – resulting in a P10 finish for the Red Bull driver. With a new statement, he seems to want to close this chapter.
“We had an exciting strategy and a good race in Barcelona, until the safety car came out,” said Max Verstappen in a new post on Instagram. “Our tyre choice towards the end and some actions after the safety car restart fueled my frustrations,” he admitted. “This led to an action that was not right and should not have happened. I always give everything for the team, and emotions can run high. Sometimes you win together, sometimes you lose together. See you in Montreal.”
As the Dutchman finished in tenth place, he lost a lot of ground in the drivers’ championship. Leader and race winner Oscar Piastri nearly doubled his lead; the difference is currently 49 points. Lando Norris is second, with a lead of 39 points over Verstappen. Meanwhile, Russell (4th) and Leclerc (5th) are getting closer.
