The Dutch GP at Zandvoort is just around the corner! This weekend, Formula 1 kicks off the second half of the season in the Dutch dunes. Home hero Max Verstappen has enjoyed a well-deserved summer break, but now feels ready to race again. Despite a challenging first half of the season and Red Bull’s disappointing competitiveness, Verstappen is eagerly looking forward to Zandvoort, thanks in part to the unique atmosphere and his enthusiastic home fans.
“It was a nice summer vacation,” the Dutchman stated in a Red Bull press release. “I was able to relax and spend time with family and friends. It was good to recharge and reset before we head back to Zandvoort, the first race after the summer break,” said Verstappen. “Because it’s my home race, it always remains a special event; the atmosphere is amazing and we experience tremendous support.”
Sea of Orange
At Zandvoort, Verstappen is traditionally cheered on by his own Orange Army, the orange fans who are known worldwide for their passion and enthusiasm. “Driving past that sea of orange gives a fantastic feeling,” emphasized the 27-year-old driver. “I’m looking forward to being back at Zandvoort. To celebrate this, I’ll be wearing my Orange Lion helmet this weekend, as well as a special cap and special racing shoes.”
Expectations of the Four-Time World Champion
What does the four-time world champion expect from the weekend? “Zandvoort is an oldschool circuit with a unique layout and many fast corners,” Verstappen continued in a serious tone. “It’s going to be a tough race and it seems that the weather will make it challenging, but we’ll see what happens.”
According to the current weather forecast, there is a chance of rain throughout the weekend. In addition, a strong southwest wind is predicted, which could potentially affect the cars on the track.
