During the winter break, at least one persistent rumor was circulating: Max Verstappen was to be brought to Aston Martin. The team was said to have already enticed new sponsors with the promise of the Dutch champion. The gossip press even mentioned a staggering contract of 1 billion dollars for the 27-year-old driver. As the new season approaches, Verstappen wants to put an end to these rumors.
It was a striking rumor: Aston Martin was allegedly whispering to potential sponsors that four-time world champion Max Verstappen would sooner or later join the team. After a tumultuous year at Red Bull, a transfer is not unthinkable, although the Dutchman has a contract until 2028. When asked, Aston Martin denied all allegations. However, should Verstappen ever become available, the team would undoubtedly be in line to offer him a contract.
‘Max has grown up with Red Bull’
During the F1 75 event in London, Max Verstappen himself emphasized that he remains loyal to Red Bull for the time being. The only contact he has with Aston Martin is related to his own GT3 racing project. He found the astronomical amounts that the British racing stable would want to pay him quite striking. “It’s a lot of money,” Verstappen laughed to the press in London. “But the only contact I’ve had with them was about the GT3 cars for this year. There’s nothing else to report.” Verstappen is working with his Team Redline and driver Thierry Vermeulen on participation in the GT World Challenge Europe.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was also quick to further debunk the transfer rumors. “I know the press has to write something during the winter period, but a billion-dollar driver?” he said hesitantly. “That’s a huge amount. I think Max is very happy in his current environment. He has grown up with this team and has a great relationship with the engineers, technicians, and everyone he works with. It’s up to us to provide him with a competitive car and enable him to win.”
