FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem immediately expressed his admiration for the cool-headedness of four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen after his pole position for the Abu Dhabi GP. “His mental strength is unparalleled. Max is completely focused on the track. It’s always important to keep your emotions under control over a weekend, otherwise mistakes creep in. He masters that,” said Ben Sulayem.
The FIA President speaks of a beautiful climax to the season and pure promotion for the sport. Tomorrow, the world championship will be decided in the final race of the season with three contenders for the title: Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri.
“But,” Ben Sulayem added, “I do not envy the three drivers because of the immense tension and how they will sleep tonight. The same goes for the involved team bosses, the engineers, and all other team members. The whole world is watching, the pressure and tension are incredible. At the same time, that’s what makes our sport unique. I hope the best wins. Who that is? I will never say. As FIA President, I cannot express a preference.”
