McLaren CEO Zak Brown has also commented on the incident between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris during the qualifying round in Singapore. The American doesn’t understand what the exact problem was, as according to him, Norris did not obstruct the Dutch driver. “In my opinion, it was really a non-issue,” said Brown.
It was a notable moment at the end of the qualifying round in Singapore. Max Verstappen had to abort his final fast lap because he ended up in the dirty air of Lando Norris. The McLaren driver was on his way to the pit lane at that time. After the session, the Dutchman discovered that it was Norris who had obstructed him, but he didn’t want to dwell on the incident during the press conference.
“I think it’s pretty clear that it wasn’t a pleasant moment,” Verstappen honestly told the press conference. “Generally, as drivers, we are always good at moving aside for others in time, even though it can sometimes be difficult. In this case, it could have been prevented.”
‘Non-issue’
The incident between Norris and Verstappen did not go unnoticed in the McLaren camp. According to Zak Brown, however, the moment was a ‘non-issue’. “I just watched the replay, and unless it was the wrong replay, I can’t really see what they (Red Bull, ed.) are talking about in terms of blocking,” the American told Viaplay. “In my opinion, it was a non-issue. Maybe there was some frustration, or it was slightly distracting.”
