Verstappen Faces Austria GP Without Key Engineer Lambiase
Red Bull

Bad news for Max Verstappen! The Dutchman will have to do without his regular race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, during the upcoming race weekend in Austria. Due to personal circumstances, the British-Italian engineer – also the right-hand man of Red Bull’s top driver – did not travel to Spielberg. This is the first time Verstappen has to do without Lambiase.

In Max Verstappen’s career, Gianpiero Lambiase is a constant. Since 2016, he has consistently been the one guiding him from the pit wall and providing instructions. In the past, the duo has often received praise for the flawless way they work together. Lambiase plays an important role, not only for Verstappen, but also within the Red Bull team. Recently, he has also been active as Head of Racing at the Austrian racing stable.

Lambiase is expected to be back for the British GP at Silverstone. In Austria, he is replaced by Simon Rennie, also an experienced race engineer. The Brit worked for many years with former Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo. When the affable Australian left the team after the 2018 season, Rennie requested a new role within the Red Bull ranks, after which he started working in the factory in Milton Keynes.
