Max Verstappen is on the brink of a title race. During the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he will face off against both McLaren drivers one more time in the battle for the championship. Dutch sports fans are closely following the Red Bull driver. Feyenoord coach and former international Robin van Persie is also enjoying Verstappen’s races. He joins PSV colleague Peter Bosz in warning that the four-time world champion is ready to strike again.

During a press conference in the run-up to the match against PEC Zwolle, Feyenoord coach Robin van Persie was asked about Verstappen’s title fight. During the legendary climax of 2021, he was already glued to the television, but nowadays he is even more aware of what is about to happen in Abu Dhabi.

‘Max is heading straight for his goal’

“I have delved a bit deeper into it now,” responded the 102-time international. “At first, I was watching, but I didn’t know all the rules yet. Now, I have a reasonable understanding,” he grinned. “I can follow a race well, including everything that comes with it; from tire pressures to the right moment for a pit stop. As a result, I have started to enjoy it more.”

“And Max Verstappen, he is simply brilliant,” Van Persie continued enthusiastically. “The other two drivers are not in a good place right now,” he referred to rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. “Max is just ready, you can see it in everything. He has one goal and is heading straight for it. I already see some jabs coming from left and right,” he concluded with a laugh. “He is doing really well.”
