This weekend, Max Verstappen will be at the starting line for the Emilia-Romagna GP in Imola. The four-time world champion has not won in three consecutive races and even missed the podium at the last showdown in Miami. Success is not guaranteed in the first race on European soil either. While Red Bull already has a reason to celebrate in Imola, Verstappen explains what his biggest challenge will be.

“It was good to have a weekend off before we start another triple header,” Max Verstappen said in an official press release. “I spent the past week working with the team in the factory and the simulator, which was good.” The Dutchman also traveled back and forth to the Nürburgring for a few test laps in a GT3 car, but he is leaving that behind for now, focusing on Formula 1.

Iconic Imola

“The team has worked extremely hard and we need to get off to a quick start. Imola is truly old school, an iconic circuit,” Verstappen explained. “It’s very technical, which is why I always enjoy racing here. However, it’s difficult to overtake here, so qualifying is crucial.” It remains to be seen whether Verstappen can set a monster time on Saturday, à la Suzuka. The two McLaren drivers will undoubtedly challenge him for the first starting position.

Finally, the 27-year-old driver also reflects on the milestone that the Red Bull team will reach this weekend. “Imola will be the team’s four hundredth race,” Verstappen emphasized proudly. “Over the years, we’ve accomplished a lot that we can be proud of. So many records have been broken. It’s amazing to see what the team has built, but also to keep pushing and achieve even more successes,” he concluded, hungry for a new victory.
