Max Verstappen is naturally pleased with his victory in the sprint race, but according to him, there is still much to be done at Red Bull for the qualification and the GP on Sunday. “We will need to improve to be able to beat McLaren.”
More is needed than what the RB21 had to offer in the sprint race, says Verstappen. “The start was good, then there was the incident behind me in turn 1.” He saw how McLaren drivers and title rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were eliminated as a result. “After the safety car, it took a few laps to find the real speed in the car. We still need to figure out why that was, for the qualification and the race on Sunday.”
In particular, the rear of the car did not seem to do what Verstappen and his team would like. But he is not worried. “We’re going to look into it, we have some ideas on how to address it.”
