Following the racing spectacle in Mexico, Formula 1 is heading to Brazil this weekend. The Autódromo José Carlos Pace – colloquially known as Interlagos – is a classic on the calendar; numerous title duels have been fought on the Brazilian asphalt in the past. For instance, consider the spectacular rain victory of Max Verstappen in 2024. During the upcoming São Paulo GP, the weather forecast seems set to play a major role again. Will history repeat itself?
It’s been a while since the Formula 1 teams had to mount rain tires. In the second half of the season, the drivers mainly had to deal with heat warnings – precipitation was hardly an issue in the recent Grands Prix. However, the upcoming GP in São Paulo seems to be different. According to the latest weather forecast, it’s going to pour down over Interlagos. This offers opportunities for title candidate Max Verstappen, who already proved in the chaotic water ballet of 2024 that he masters the rain in Brazil.
Weather Forecast for São Paulo GP
On Friday, the only free practice of the weekend is scheduled, immediately followed by the first competitive session – the sprint qualification. During this opening day at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, the drivers must prepare for the first showers; the chance of precipitation is estimated at a whopping 80 percent. It will be partly cloudy around the circuit in the morning and afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. It seems likely to rain, especially in the afternoon, and it may even storm later in the day.
Saturday is dedicated to the sprint race and the regular qualification. The maximum temperature will be 26 degrees, while the chance of rain is estimated at 95 percent. During both sessions, there will undoubtedly be drops falling and it will remain partly cloudy. On Sunday – when the main race is scheduled – it is expected to clear up in São Paulo. The temperature will drop to around 23 degrees, and the chance of rain is currently only 15 percent.
