Max Verstappen is looking forward to racing so close to his home this coming weekend. The Formula 1 circus is setting up in Monaco, the city-state where several Formula 1 drivers live, including the four-time world champion. After his victory in Imola, Verstappen is approaching the Monaco GP with a positive mindset, but warns that the street circuit has not always suited the Red Bull car in the past.
Max Verstappen couldn’t have started the triple header in a better way. Not only did the Dutchman score full points with his victory in Imola, but the latest upgrades to the RB21 also seem to be working well. “It was fantastic to start the triple header with a win in Imola on Sunday,” the Grand Prix winner reflects on Verstappen.com. “We have made a lot of positive steps. I felt a lot more comfortable in the car and that puts us in a more positive position to move forward.”
‘Qualification is the key in Monaco’
However, Verstappen remains cautious and does not want to get ahead of himself ahead of the Grand Prix weekend in Monaco. “We need to keep pushing and not get ahead of ourselves, because Monaco will be a lot tougher. It is, of course, a street circuit.” Last year, the four-time world champion could do no better than a sixth-place finish, after he hit the wall in qualifying and subsequently could not compete for pole position.
“In the past, it has not been our strongest circuit, but we have made a step forward with the setup and we will try to do as well as possible,” the champion continues his preview. “Again, qualification is the key here and we are dependent on our strategy, so it’s about getting a good result on Saturday and making the car perform as well as possible.” For Verstappen, who lives in the city-state on the Mediterranean Sea, this weekend is a second home race. “It will also be nice to be close to home for this race, especially because it’s such a hectic and busy weekend!”
