The sporting reconstruction of Red Bull Racing will be a major operation that will take at least three years, believes former driver Ralf Schumacher. “And Max Verstappen doesn’t have that much patience.”
According to Ralf Schumacher, Max Verstappen is on his way out of the British racing stable, which is in rough waters this season. He expects Verstappen to opt for a multi-year and extremely lucrative contract with Mercedes, where reportedly the management of Mercedes-Benz has also expressed its approval for the potential arrival of the four-time Formula 1 world champion.
However, a departure from Red Bull will be accompanied by mixed feelings for Max Verstappen, Schumacher believes. “Max loves the team because he knows that everything he has achieved was with Red Bull and that he was given the opportunity by the former owner of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz,” the German stated on the radio station Smile 90.4FM.
Last Wednesday, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was fired, partly due to the ongoing poor results. Under his leadership, a lot of key personnel left the team. Schumacher about this: “Max would love to stay in his heart. But if you look at the team now: a lot of good people have left in the recent period and the sporting results are very poor. So to change that, I think it will take at least three years. And I’m not sure if Max will be that patient. So if you ask me, I think Max would like to stay, but he will leave partly on the advice of his management.”
According to Ralf Schumacher, contract negotiations between Max Verstappen and Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff have already begun.
