On Sunday evening, Max Verstappen finished third in Mexico, behind Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc. After the race, Verstappen expressed satisfaction with the result, especially considering a weekend that proved challenging in many respects. “I didn’t expect to be on the podium beforehand,” Verstappen admitted during the FIA press conference.
Max Verstappen is now third in the World Championship standings, trailing the new leader Lando Norris by 36 points. Oscar Piastri is one point behind his McLaren teammate Norris. There are still four races and two sprint races to go.
“It’s a big gap,” Verstappen acknowledged. “As I said before, you need to have perfect weekends, and I didn’t have one here. Statistically, I still have a chance. However, we need to win all the races from now on, otherwise it’s not going to happen. It’s going to be tough, but let’s see what we can do on the other circuits. This weekend clearly shows that we’re not equally fast everywhere, and we need to understand that well.”
The next race is in two weeks in Brazil.
