Max Verstappen was quite content with his second-place finish at the Grand Prix of Canada. Although he had to concede victory to George Russell, he managed to stay ahead of Russell’s teammate, Kimi Antonelli. “That was the best we could achieve,” Verstappen stated.
Verstappen, who started in second place, admitted to having a challenging start to the race. “The first two stints were not easy, but the car performed better on the tires in the last stint. Having less fuel on board also helped. In the end, we had a nice, aggressive strategy. However, I had to drive defensively against the guys behind us (Antonelli and Oscar Piastri). All in all, it was a good race.”
The fact that he gained points on the retired Lando Norris and the fourth-placed Oscar Piastri was nice, but not more than that. Verstappen, after achieving the best possible second place for him, said: “It’s still a long season, we have to take it race by race.”
