Max Verstappen is eagerly anticipating the work of designer Adrian Newey at Aston Martin next year. The renowned British designer switched from Red Bull to the British racing team, and according to the Dutch driver, it’s still a bit strange to see Newey in Aston Martin attire. Nevertheless, Verstappen wishes the Brit all the best at his new employer: ‘I still have a lot of respect for Adrian.’

Adrian Newey decided to end his long collaboration with Red Bull in 2024. The top British designer had been with the Austrians since 2006 and was ready for a new challenge. Newey also worked for the Austrian team throughout Max Verstappen’s entire career at Red Bull, so the Dutchman is keeping a close eye on the Brit’s work at Aston Martin.

“It just reminds me of how he naturally was with us when I see him there in the garage,” Verstappen tells Motorsport Week. Newey was seen for the first time on the track and in the Aston Martin garage during the GP Monaco. “Honestly, there’s no point in thinking about it anymore. Adrian is no longer with us. We still have a lot of respect for Adrian, or at least I have a lot of respect for Adrian. He’s also a great person besides all the success he’s had with our team.””To see him now in green is of course a bit different, but I’m happy for him. I hope he’s happy,” continues the four-time world champion. “That’s ultimately the most important thing. And I’m sure he will contribute to their success. I’m excited to see what they can do next year when he’s finally fully involved.” Newey started his job at the British racing team last March, which meant he was too late to fully work on the 2025 car.

Max Chooses the Fastest Car

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen has been linked with Aston Martin for a long time. However, Newey believes that the Dutchman will only switch if the British racing team has a fast car. “Max is clearly a phenomenal talent and a superior competitor, but there’s no point in daydreaming about him in the short term,” said the top designer in Monaco. “Max takes things at a simple level and in this specific case, he will try to choose the team he thinks will have the fastest car.”
