Yuki Tsunoda is struggling at Red Bull, and the gap to Max Verstappen is consistently too large. Verstappen himself is doing everything he can to help his Japanese teammate. The Dutchman shared this during an interview in Canada.
“This weekend is already going better,” Verstappen observes regarding Yuki Tsunoda. Despite the unfortunate circumstance of Tsunoda having to start from the back due to a ten-place grid penalty, the gap is often too large. “It’s hard to pinpoint why,” Verstappen notes. However, he is trying to support his Japanese teammate with advice and action.
“You try to help with advice, for example about what I do with the car, about warming up the tires, for instance. I think we’re doing well together. But ultimately, he has to prove himself, of course.”
Verstappen is not at all concerned about Tsunoda’s mental resilience. He doesn’t see any mental burden. “No, I don’t think so. Although I can’t read that from him. But I really hope not. Look, he’s doing his best no matter what, and the car is much more stable this weekend. So hopefully for Yuki as well.”
