Richard Verschoor managed to secure sixth place in the nick of time during the Formula 2 sprint race in Baku. The Dutch driver overtook Gabriele Minì just before the finish line to secure a spot in the top six. In doing so, Verschoor gained crucial points for the championship. His fellow countryman, Laurens van Hoepen, finished seventeenth.
Richard Verschoor started the shortened race session in eleventh place, but managed to gain two positions in the chaotic opening turns. His teammate, Oliver Goethe, was less fortunate; the German driver’s sprint race ended in the first round.
Even after the restart, Verschoor held onto his ninth place. The session was plagued by multiple safety car periods and saw five dropouts, but that didn’t deter Verschoor from securing the sixth place just before the finish. The Dutch driver overtook Gabriele Minì just before the finish line. Laurens van Hoepen finished seventeenth, crossing the finish line last among the remaining drivers. The race was won by Dino Beganovic, who thus claimed his first victory in the feeder series.
