Richard Verschoor has claimed victory in the sprint race in Qatar. The Formula 2 driver momentarily lost the lead to Joshua Dürksen at the start, but managed to regain it from the Paraguayan in the fourth lap. The Dutchman then drove to victory, securing valuable points for the Formula 2 championship.

Richard Verschoor is still in contention, along with four other drivers, to take home this year’s title. Besides Verschoor, only Alex Dunne – currently fifth in the championship – also finished in the top five. Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli finished the shortened race in sixth place. Jak Crawford and Luke Browning – second and third in the championship – finished eighth and seventeenth respectively.

Van Hoepen

Verschoor’s victory lap at the Lusail International Circuit was interrupted by a Safety Car, triggered by fellow countryman Laurens van Hoepen. The driver was involved in an incident with teammate James Wharton. However, even after the restart, Verschoor was quickly able to pull a gap of more than a second from the rest of the field. A second Safety Car brought the race to an early end.
