Formula 2 driver Richard Verschoor has won the main race of the Formula 2 at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The Dutchman started the race from the ninth position. In the final lap, Verschoor managed to overtake Jak Crawford, crossing the finish line first. This victory serves as a redemption for the driver, who lost the win due to a time penalty on Saturday.
A day after the bitter pill of losing his victory in Saudi Arabia, Richard Verschoor takes his revenge. The Dutchman, racing for MP Motorsport, drove from ninth place to victory. This is Verschoor’s fifth win in Formula 2. For MP Motorsport, it’s a double celebration on Sunday, as earlier the Dutch Maya Weug won the F1 Academy on behalf of the team.
Redemption
“It feels amazing, it feels like redemption,” a beaming Verschoor says after the race. “Yesterday we had a good race, we fought hard, but unfortunately a penalty spoiled our victory. So I’m so happy with today. We were really flying. All credit to the team. They gave me a great car, and I’m so proud of them and of myself.”
Not only did Verschoor clinch the victory in Jeddah, but he also took the lead in the drivers’ championship for Formula 2. “That’s very nice, but the season is long. So we have to keep fighting,” the Dutchman concludes determinedly.
