Dutch driver Richard Verschoor secured a podium finish in the Formula 2 sprint race in Bahrain. Starting from the fifth position, Verschoor navigated a thrilling race to ultimately finish in second place.
The early stages of the race were interrupted by the safety car due to Sebastián Montoya stalling immediately after the start. He spun out and was unable to move from his spot. Richard Verschoor, who had started from the fifth position, moved up one place at the start.
The race resumed in the fifth lap. The MP Motorsport driver maintained his position and managed to secure the third spot with a brilliant overtaking move in the tenth lap. Up front, Dino Beganovic overtook Joshua Dürksen to take the lead, with Verschoor trailing by three seconds.
Safety Car Provides Opportunities for Verschoor
In the sixteenth lap, seven laps before the end, the safety car was once again deployed after Max Verstappen also stalled. Verschoor had to stay sharp, both offensively and defensively, as the entire top four were within DRS range.
With just two laps to go, Pepe Martí overtook both Verschoor and Dürksen. However, Verschoor still managed to make it to the podium: Beganovic fell back and Verschoor managed to gain one more position in the final lap, finishing in second place.
