On Sunday, just like the previous day, Formula 2 driver Richard Verschoor’s comeback race in Italy was impressive. However, the MP Motorsport driver lost some ground in the title race.

Verschoor had to start in the midfield due to a crash and a red flag in Friday’s qualifying session. Just like in Saturday’s sprint race in Monza – where he moved from P14 to P4 – he delivered a stellar performance in the main race a day later. This time, he was rewarded with an eighth-place finish. The downside for Verschoor was that his rival, Leonardo Fornaroli, finished ahead of him on both days. On Sunday, Fornaroli finished fifth.

Interestingly, the podium almost had a Dutch touch on Sunday. Rafael Villagomez nearly secured a third-place finish for Van Amersfoort Racing. However, the Mexican had to settle for P4.

Championship Standings

In the championship, Fornaroli leads with 174 points. Browning has overtaken Verschoor in the standings due to his victory. He is second with 153 points, followed by the Dutchman with 144 points. Jack Crawford (137 points) and Alex Dunne (124 points) are also still in the running for the title. There are three more race weekends left in the Formula 2 season, starting in Baku (19-21 September).
