Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has a cameo in the new Formula 1 movie F1, as he revealed in the run-up to the Canadian Grand Prix. At the same time, Italian media reported that Vasseur is under immense pressure to turn the tide at Scuderia. He may only have three more Grand Prix to prove himself if he wants to secure a new contract for 2026. Vasseur joked that his acting debut has now opened up a potential career in Hollywood.
Media in Montreal asked Vasseur about his role in the new Formula 1 movie – journalists had the opportunity to preview the production on the big screen on Thursday. “I only had to say two words,” he explained. “It wasn’t very special, but it went quite well. Now I can look for a new job,” he joked, in a light-hearted reference to all the exit rumors surrounding him.
Ferrari Misses Out on Points
Later, Vasseur lashed out at the Italian press, who reported this week that Ferrari might sack him after 2025. “Enough is enough,” said the 57-year-old team boss. “The media must remember that they are dealing with people, not objects.” After a less than impressive start to the season, Vasseur believes that Ferrari is now making good strides – the team finished on the podium in the last two races. “The original goal was to fight for the championship,” he admitted. “But that’s true for everyone – for McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes. In that respect, McLaren is currently just a step ahead. We simply didn’t do well enough on our side. In China, we were disqualified – suddenly we were 60 points behind.”
“After that, we recovered reasonably well, at least compared to Red Bull and Mercedes,” Vasseur continued optimistically. “We need to keep improving ourselves every day. Sometimes we missed opportunities and didn’t reach the level of last year. But if you want to win the title – as we saw in 2024 – you can’t afford to lose points.”
After rumors of his alleged departure, both Ferrari drivers expressed their support for Vasseur. Lewis Hamilton stated that he ‘only wants to win with Fred’, to which Charles Leclerc emphasized that the trio – Vasseur, Hamilton, and himself – share a ‘common vision’.
