In a candid interview, Toto Wolff opens up about his struggles with mental health. The Austrian team boss reveals his long-standing mental battles, which he now views as a ‘superpower’.
Since 2013, Wolff has been the team boss of Mercedes, achieving significant success during his tenure. Under his leadership, the German team clinched the constructors’ title eight times. However, the Austrian reveals that such success is not always accompanied by joy.
Wolff shared his mental health struggles in a frank interview with Martin Brundle for Sky Sports F1. “I struggled so much with these things,” the team boss admits. “For months, I had no clear thoughts, but I came to realize that there are many advantages associated with it.”
Superpower
The Mercedes team boss previously told the Sunday Times that he has been receiving help since 2004, and now views his mental health struggles as something positive. “I call it a superpower,” Wolff candidly explains to Sky F1. “This is how I hope to give hope to people with mental health issues. When I was really struggling, I thought ‘that person doesn’t have what I have’ and therefore that person can be more successful,” says the Austrian.
