Lance Stroll has received a five-place grid penalty for the United States Grand Prix, following his collision with Esteban Ocon in Saturday’s sprint race. The Canadian also received two penalty points on his super license.

In lap 16, Stroll attempted to overtake Ocon at high speed on the inside of turn 1, but braked far too late and drove straight into the back of the Haas. The result: severe damage to both cars. The front of Stroll’s AMR25 was completely destroyed, while Ocon’s left rear wheel was torn off.

The stewards fully blamed Stroll for the incident. In addition to the grid penalty, he also received two penalty points on his super license, bringing his total to seven in the past twelve months. The impact was particularly hard for Haas: the team had introduced the final upgrade of the year in Austin, but Ocon’s was immediately nullified by the incident with Stroll.
