Stake F1 Team, formerly known as Sauber, has signed a new contract with engineer Stefano Sordo. The Italian technician previously worked with Red Bull and McLaren. Currently, he serves as the technical director at RLL Racing, which participates in IndyCar. At Sauber, which will be taken over by Audi in 2026, he will assume the role of performance director.

Sordo is the latest addition to Sauber, which aims to strengthen itself ahead of Audi’s takeover for the 2026 season. CEO Andreas Seidl and technical director James Key, both from McLaren, have already joined the team. Seidl, who knows Sordo from his time in Woking, is pleased to have the Italian join the team.

Stefano Sordo: A Key Addition to Sauber

“Securing Stefano is a significant step in the development of our technical department,” says Seidl. “He brings the necessary knowledge and experience. We already have a strong team in Hinwil, and he can help us convert our skills into performance. This is a crucial time for Sauber – the Audi factory team is preparing for its debut.”

Expert in the Field

Over the past twenty years, Sordo has held several high-ranking positions in motorsport. Between 2010 and 2013, he was part of the first dominant period of Red Bull, later joining the McLaren Formula 1 team. “I am pleased to now join Sauber,” said the 52-year-old engineer. “The team is undergoing a significant change, with the Audi adventure not far off.”
