Cadillac is reportedly in agreement with Sergio Pérez to lead the American newcomer’s Formula 1 plans from 2026. The Mexican driver will thus return to the F1 grid after a year’s absence, having been replaced by Red Bull at the end of 2024, according to PlanetF1.com.
In his last season with Red Bull, Pérez had a strong start, but his performance as Max Verstappen‘s teammate significantly declined thereafter. The recruitment of Pérez aligns with Cadillac’s ambition to opt for an experienced driver. Moreover, the Mexican brings valuable sponsors from his home country. Cadillac, however, has not yet confirmed the move.
For a long time, Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas was considered a favorite for one of the two seats. However, at Cadillac, there seems to be a preference for a rookie for the second seat. The most likely candidate in this case is Felipe Drugovich, the reserve driver for Aston Martin. In addition to the Brazilian, Formula 2 drivers Jak Crawford and Alex Dunne are also said to have held talks with the team.
