Last week, Sergio Pérez delivered a powerful performance in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, his weekend ended with a crash into the wall after an unfortunate collision with Carlos Sainz. According to the Mexican driver, he was able to refocus in Baku and concentrate on the race again. His teammate, Max Verstappen, had a less successful weekend – “Maybe he’s not focused now?” Pérez jokingly wondered.
Sergio Pérez – the Red Bull driver, after a long series of mediocre Grands Prix, fought for the podium in Azerbaijan. When asked what had changed leading up to the Singapore GP, he explained, “I was focused. I wasn’t distracted and thought of nothing else but racing. People often said that I couldn’t focus and that I was too busy with other things. I think that’s what has improved the most.”
Pérez versus Verstappen
Pérez’s teammate, Max Verstappen, had a more challenging weekend in Baku. The Dutch driver didn’t make it past fifth place and was even overtaken by title rival Lando Norris. “Maybe he’s not focused now,” Pérez joked. “I’ve been through it all. I think it’s clear that Red Bull has a problem at the moment. We just need to focus and try to get the best out of the car. Fortunately, there were also plenty of positives to mention in Baku.”
“If we can show here that we have learned from our mistakes, it will be a huge boost for the team,” Pérez continued, looking ahead to the upcoming GP in Singapore. “It’s a very important weekend for us – we need to confirm that we took the right steps in Baku. It can still be a good season for us; we still have a few races to go.”
